The Mamuli is an ornament of the Sumbanese people in Indonesia. Examples have been found dating back 100s of years on the west coast of Sumba. The symbol represents female sexuality and reproductive power and is often included as part of a wedding dowry. The mamuli shape represents the yoni, the female genitalia, and symbolises the woman as the giver of life. It is a symbol of feminine strength.
Our mamuli copper pendants are made in Indonesia and are designed to wear and use. These pieces are not antique, heirlooms or taken from a traditional setting. We hope to respectfully share this powerful symbol of femininity across cultural borders.
The mamuli pendants are approximately 5cm (2in) long by 4cm (1.5in) wide. The necklace of woven copper wire is included. The necklace is 56cm (22in) long.
